Fans, players and community members attending the volleyball game between Hitchcock-Tulare and Miller on Sept. 26 raised $1,877 to help area women who cannot afford mammograms.
The team sold more than 180 pink T-shirts and hosted a Chinese auction, bake sale and service game between matches to raise the funds, which were donated to the Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation.
Debbie Binger, the mother of player LaMour Binger, was inspired to donate the money to help with mammograms because the test helped to find her mother’s breast cancer. “The doctors told us it was because she had a mammogram that helped to find a needle in the haystack,” said Binger. She credits the early detection of her mother’s cancer for her survival.
Members of the Hitchcock-Tulare volleyball team include: LaMour Binger, Cassie Binger, Taylor Knippling, Saige Peterson, Kaytlyn Boomsma, Shaylyn Steinhauser, Erin Barrie, Cassie Buchholz, Kylie Gross, April Hamilton, Shanae Peterson and Kori Tschetter. For the complete article see the 11-07-2013 issue.
