HURON — The Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks defeated Wolsey-Wessington in the District 6B volleyball tournament Friday night at James Valley Christian’s gymnasium.
The Blackhawks (17-10), who defeated the Warbirds 25-23, 25-18, 25-9, will play Arlington Tuesday evening in Forestburg for the right to play Nov. 21-23 at the Class B State Tournament to be held at Huron Arena.
Wolsey-Wessington (13-12) fought tooth and nail through the first set but the Blackhawks pulled out the victory and began pulling away winning the second set by seven points and the third by 16.
The Blackhawks were led by Marissa Weber and Morgan Selland up front as they combined for 23 kills, Weber alone finishing with 15.
Weber missed on just three of her 27 attacks while Selland missed on just four of her 20.
Defensively at the net Weber had five blocks while Myah Selland added another pair.
Setting up the Sanborn Central-Woonsocket attack was Rachel Selland who had 20 assists in the game.
Rachel Selland, with the help of Savannah Swenson, led the Blackhawks at the service line.
Selland had three aces and was perfect on 16 serves while Swenson had a pair of aces and went 18-for-18 from the service line.
Defensively, Swenson had 17 digs and Morgan Selland had a dozen.
The Warbirds were led at the net by the trio of Megan Eggleston (18-21) four kills, Monica Hentzi (14-19) four kills and Tschetter (9-13) two kills.
Defensively at the net, Brittany Berquist had five blocks as did Taylor Peck.
Setting up the Warbird attack was the tandem of Eggleston (42-44) and Peck (26-27), who each had five assists.
From the service line Wolsey-Wessington got a pair of aces from Hentzi (13-14) and Ashley Eggleston (6-6), while Berquist and Kallie Carey where perfect on eight and six serves, respectively.
Defensively for the Warbirds in the back row, Bailey Zerfoss had six digs while Carey and Tschetter each had four.
The Blackhawks will now face an Arlington team that defeated De Smet 25-22, 25-19, 25-8 Thursday evening to win the District 6B championship on their home floor.
The game Tuesday is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
Eight teams will advance from Tuesday’s action to play for the South Dakota High School Activities Association championship in Huron.
