Syneva Summers, 68, Mitchell

Syneva Summers, 68, Mitchell, died Monday, December 23, 2013 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 28 at 11:00 AM at Northridge Baptist Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemenís Memorial Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday evening at the Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. A Memorial Fund has been established to Avera Hospice in Mitchell.

Syneva Eileen Summers was born January 2, 1945, at Salem, SD, to Valentine and Otítillia (Frank) Mandel. She grew up in rural Salem, Freeman and the Mitchell area. She went to grade school at Hanson Bard School and attended Alexandria High School. On November 4, 1961, she married Charles Henry Summers at Mitchell. She was employed at White Drug, Gibsons, Syncom and Lorenís Camera Shop. From 1986 until 1999, she owned and managed Riverside Ringneck Farm.

She was an active member of the National Rifle Association for many years, was a committee volunteer for the Mitchell Friends of NRA Banquet, coordinator for the NRA Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program in eastern South Dakota, NRA Field Support Volunteer for South Dakota, NRA ďFree HuntersĒ National Hunting Club of America, and was an NRA Certified Recruiter and NRA Certified Firearms Instructor. She was a member of the NRA South Dakota Shooting Sports Association, was a 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer, Coordinator for Youth Center Education Challenge (YHEC), a Boy Scout Shooting Merit Badge Instructor and was a past member of the Davison County Shooting Club. She was an avid deer hunter, a dedicated Army Guard wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never worried about herself, always concerned about others and how her grandkids and great-grandkids were doing.

She is survived by her husband Chuck; one daughter, Cheri Claggett and husband Paul of Storla; one son, Scott Summers and wife Kathy of Mitchell; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, four sisters: Shirley Mandel of Mitchell, Sally Wise of Mitchell, Sandra Smith and husband Roger of Tea, and Sylvia Garwood and husband Steve of Valentine, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Otítillia Mandel; father and mother-in-law, Darwin and Rosemary Summers; brother-in-law, Lorry Wise and granddaughter, Sara Ann Claggett.
