HURON — Duane Hunter Sr., 75, of Huron, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, in Sioux Falls.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Welter Funeral Home, with burial with military honors at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Duane Hunter, son of Raymond and Esther (King) Hunter, was born July 5, 1938, in Davison County near Mitchell. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 20, 1955.
On July 19, 1958, he married Solveig Kristiansen in Palo Alto, Calif. Following his honorable discharge on July 2, 1959, they moved to Huron. He sold insurance for many years. He later worked at Armour & Company in Huron until 1986, when he moved to Sioux Falls where he worked as a USDA inspector at John Morrell & Company for 11 years. In 1997 he retired from John Morrell and returned to Huron.
He enjoyed garage sales and second-hand stores, watching old westerns, reading western books and tracing his ancestry.
On Dec. 27, 1980, he married Betty Fullen in Huron. She died on Oct. 2, 1997.
He is survived by nine children, Duane (Suzanne) Hunter Jr. of Sioux Falls, Debbie (Steve) Quiram of Huron, Diane (Kennedy) Ombech of Huron, Gary (Kathy) Stahl of Huron, Robert Stahl of Huron, Andrea Stahl of Huron, Dee Dee (Ed) Wilson of Canton, Tanya (Chris) Callahan of Huron, and Ginger (Dan) Donovan of Huron; 38 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orvey Hunter of Eagle Point, Ore., and Leonard Hunter of Napa, Calif.; and two sisters, Lela Wilson of California and Alice (Wayne) Leberknight of Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Betty; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Freddy Hunter and David “Joey” Steever; and two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Hunter and Marie Hunter.For the complete article see the 12-29-2013 issue.
