Kenneth Valentine Martin, 93, of Jupiter, Fla. and formerly of Fort Lauderdale and White Sulphur Springs, Va.

JUPITER, Fla. — Kenneth Valentine Martin, 93, of Jupiter, Fla. and past resident of Fort Lauderdale and White Sulphur Springs, Va., died Dec. 25, 2013.

A memorial service will be held in late spring over Memorial weekend holiday in Greenbrier County, West Virginia.

Kenneth “Kenny” Valentine Martin was born in Carthage on Sept. 13, 1920, to Gladys and Frank Martin. He served in the Army band.

He married Beatrice Estelle Deason. After being honorably discharged, he worked with various big bands. He was featured on Times Square billboards as a lead vocalist and joined the entertainment group “the Populaires.” He retired after 30 years of performing. After retirement, he played with the Boca Pops orchestra and the Paul Cohen Big Band in Plantation, Fla.

He is survived by his four children, Ken Frank (Gloria) Martin, Cindy Faye (Steve) Heisler, Gary Scott (Oris) Martin; son, Craig Douglas (Fran) Martin; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed golf and other sports, traveling and classic antique cars.

Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Palm Beach County in Florida.
