MITCHELL — Clarence O. Hainy, 91, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by the Masonic service. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery with military rites.
Clarence O. Hainy was born to Charles and Viola (Ruml) Hainy on May 22, 1922, in Jerauld County. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1942. He entered the Army on Dec. 26, 1942, and served in the European Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged on March 2, 1946, and returned to Wessington Springs.
He married Betty Hodgson on June 30, 1946, in Wessington Springs. He was employed at NorthWestern Public Service for 20 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mitchell and a life member of the Masonic Lodge #31, the El Riad Shrine, the American Legion and the VFW. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and served as president of the Optimist Club and the rock club. He also served as secretary/treasurer of the Universal Bowling League for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Hainy of Mitchell; and a brother, Vernon (Bud) Hainy of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or Shriners Hospital for Children.
