HURON — Jefferson Elementary School celebrated with a banana splits social and a “We’re Bananas for Math” theme Thursday for having surpassed their mathematics goal in NWEA testing. The goal was to see a 50 per cent increase in the children’s math skills during winter testing. Jefferson Elementary’s students increased in their math skills by 89 per cent.

Taco John’s donated the ice cream bowls for the celebration while Zell’s Auto Glass donated the ice cream and Fair City Food donated the bananas.

Last Friday, Washington Elementary also celebrated having surpassed their testing goal in mathematics. Washington had a popcorn party and watched “The Jungle Book.”

“I would like to say thank you to the Huron Community,” said principal, Beth Foss. “When we ask, they all want to help out and give back to the schools.”
