Kludt seeks seat on City Commission

HURON — Douglas E. Kludt has announced his candidacy for a three-year term on the Huron City Commission in the April 8 municipal election.

A native of Huron and a 1971 graduate of Huron High School, he received a bachelor of arts degree in government and a law degree from the University of South Dakota.

Kludt is a partner in the Churchill, Manolis, Freeman, Kludt, Shelton & Burns Law Firm. Before joining the firm in 1985, he served as a South Dakota assistant attorney general in Pierre.

In his announcement, he said: “I am running because I am grateful for the many opportunities I’ve received from this community, and want to do what I can to make it an even better place for the next generation.”

Kludt serves as president of the board of directors for the Nordby Center for Recreation and is a member of the Huron Lake & Riverfront Committee.

He has served on the Huron Community Foundation Board, the Huron Board of Historic Preservation, the Huron Area Senior Center Board, the Greater Huron Development Corporation Board and as past president of the Huron Chamber of Commerce and the United Way Heartland Region.

He and his wife, Rhonda, executive director of the United Way Heartland Region, have two adult children, Rachel Kary of Sioux Falls and Thomas of New York City.
