Hockey awards

HURON — Dr. Robert Hohm accepted the Friends of Hockey Award during the Huron Hockey Association Banquet, which was held Thursday.

Several players also received honors on Thursday.

During the state tournament, Drake Burnison received the Toshiba Academic Award, for the Huron boys’ varsity team, while Beau Mandel received the Hobey Baker Award.

Locally, Tyler Busch was named as the most improved defensive player, while Jake Axtmann was the most improved on offense.

Hope Goethel and Erin Scheibe were named first team all-state for the Huron girls’ varsity team during the state tournament, while Ashley Waagen received the Toshiba Academic Award and a $500 scholarship from the Tronnes Fund.

Locally, Shelby Smoyer was selected as the most improved offensive player, whle Randa Bennett was named most improved on defense.

Other award winners on Thursday were Martin Boetel (most improved defense on PeeWee B); Spencer Busch (most improved offense on PeeWee A); Matthew Voss (most improved offense on PeeWee B); and Nathan Moon (most improved defense on PeeWee A.
