Tigers open season at Al Sahli Invitational

ABERDEEN — The Huron boys’ and girls’ track teams opened their seasons Saturday indoors at the Al Sahli meet.

A pair of veteran girls’ led the Tigers and were the team’s top place-winners.

Asia King finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 33-feet 3-inches, while Kamelia Schneider took third in the pole vault with an effort of 9-6.

King also garnered a seven place finish in the long jump.

Michelle Johnson finished eighth in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes 44 seconds and Latavia Williams was seventh in the 55 meters with a time of 7.75.

Shelby Gauer was seventh in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:54.

On the boys’ side Arthur Hines was seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:24.9.

Meanwhile Kyle Corbett, Sam Carr, Trent Francom all picked up eighth place finishes.

Corbett’s finished 8th in the long jump with an effort of 18-8 and both Carr and Francom tied for eighth in the pole vault clearing 10-6.

Tiger head coach Tom Baszler in his first year at the helm of the program was pleased with his team’s effort.

“We really ran well today,” said Baszler. “We had a lot of production from a lot of different people.”

He also said the meet was a great opener in preparation of the team’s home opener Friday at Tiger Stadium when they host the Huron Invitational.

“We will be able to learn a lot more during Friday’s meet, which is the first outdoor meet of the season,” he said.

The meet is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
