PIERRE — The Huron girls’ golf team opened its season Tuesday by finishing sixth in the Pierre Invitational at Hillsview Golf Course.
Sioux Falls O’Gorman won the 13-team event with a score of 318. Pierre and Rapid City Stevens finished 17 strokes back with totals of 335 to share the second spot. Rounding out the top five were Yankton at 346 and Harrrisburg at 362.
The Tigers finished one stroke away from a top-five finish at 363, while Aberdeen Central was seventh at 365 and Brookings was eighth at 366.
Katie Barlett of Pierre earned the medalist honors with a score of 76, while Becky Frick of Yankton was second at 77 and Elle Carlson of Sioux Falls O’Gorman was third with a 77. Rounding out the top five were O’Gorman teammates Myla Brown and Meredith Turner at 79 and 80, respectively.
Cassidy Entwisle turned in the low score of 85 to lead Huron. She finished 13th in the 75-golfer field.
Halee Allerdings was 17th for the Tigers at 86, while Taylor Flanery was 26th at 91.
Rounding out the lineup for Huron were Jayda Shillingstad at 101 and Sara Skorheim at 109.
The Tigers will now be off until April 15, when they travel to participate in the Yankton Invitation. They will make their home debut on April 17 with the Huron Invitational. For the complete article see the 04-09-2014 issue.
