JVC boys second; C-WL girls third in Estelline

ESTELLINE — The James Valley Christian was the top finishing South Dakota school during the Sno Bird Invitational held on Thursday.

The Vikings amassed 95 points to finished four points in front of Hamlin, but was second in the final standings behind Canby, Minn., which had 129 points.

Rounding out the top five in the boys’ standings were Clark-Willow Lake at 70 and Webster Area at 68.

Canby also used 131 points to win the girls’ team title. Estelline was second at 71, followed by Clark-Willow Lake at 61.

Deubrook Area finished a point behind the Cyclones in fourth, while Webster Area had 54 points.

Nathan Wedel won the 200-meter dash and helped the Vikings to victories in the medley; 1,600; and 3,200 relays. Other members of the relay teams were Alex Waldner, Jayden Waldner, Jonathon Blom, Zach Zuccaro and Ryan Wager.

Tim Wager won the long jump for JVC.

Rawson Yost won the 800 and 1,600 events for Clark-Willow Lake, while teammate Tyson Jenkins won the shot put and discus events.

In the girls’ division, Mackenzie Huber claimed the discus title for Clark-Willow Lake.

James Valley Christian’s Julie Loewen led Clark-Willow Lake’s Mikayla Prouty across the line to win the 1,600 run.
