HURON — Donald Eugene Hampton, 96, of Huron, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Huron, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron and military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. ; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Donald Eugene Hampton was born to Gordon and Artie (Bendorf) Hampton on March 11, 1918, on the family farm north of Huron. He served in the Army during World War II.
He married Eunice Neitzert on Sept. 21, 1946, in Nebraska. He was a farmer, blacksmith and mechanic.. He was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and the VFW Forrest McMullen Post 1776.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice, of Huron; six children, Jeanine (Gene) Harms and Rodney (Linda) Hampton, both of Sturgis, Darrel (Sheila) Hampton of Wolsey, Kevin (LuEllen) Hampton of Nisland, Kent (Vickie) Hampton of Huron and Annette (Steve) Bailey of Spearfish; son-in-law, Kelly (Rhonda) Hoffmann of Axtell, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tammi Lavonne, in 2001; brother, Lloyd Hampton; and six sisters, Belva Grady, Geneva Olerich, Verla Jones, Margaret Herriot, Doris McNutt and Mildred Christman.
