PLYMOUTH, Minn. — Murrae N. Freng, 89, of Plymouth, Minn., died May 31, 2014.
His funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, Minn. Burial will take place in Alexandria, Minn.
Murrae N. Freng was born on Oct. 24, 1924, to Benoni Freng and Eunice (Nordberg) Freng.
He married Helen Hanson in Brooten, Minn. He was the executive director of the Minnesota State High School League. He retired in 1985. He was a vocal music director for 13 years in Alexandria, Minn. He was inducted into the school’s hall of fame in 2009. He was inducted into the Minnesota Music Educators Association Hall of Fame in 1986. He was the conductor of the Minnneapolis Apollo Club and a charter member of the American Choral Directors Association. He received a lifetime achievement award from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. in 2013. He achieved a Master’s degree in music education from MacPhail College of music in Minneapolis, Minn. and a bachelor of arts degree in music from Concordia College.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; his children, Mary (Ron) Gunderson, of Minnetonka, Minn., Kristi (Jerry) Geyer, of Huron, Deanna Manthei of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Alan (Michele) Freng of Plymouth, Minn.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harlan.
