SPENCER —Gerald A. Kaufmann Jr., 49, of Spencer, South Dakota died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at his home rural Spencer.
Visitation will be held Monday from noon to 5 p.m. at Willoughby Funeral Home, in Howard, and a Scripture & Rosary Service is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Epiphany Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to services. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Epiphany Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Josten officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Three Kings Catholic Cemetery in Epiphany.
Gerald Archie Kaufmann was born in Mitchell, on August 14, 1964, to Gerald Sr. and Patricia (Atkinson) Kaufmann. Gerald graduated from Hanson High School in 1982. He then attended two years at Mitchell Tech for auto mechanics. Gerald then worked for Rozum Motors for several years until he came to work at the family farm. Gerald later worked at PBM Company in Howard for 12 years as a mechanic and then returned back to the family farm to work with his parents and sister.
Gerald married Barbara Mentele on November 5, 1988 at Epiphany Catholic Church. They had two children: Jonathan and Amanda. Barbara died suddenly on May 16, 1997. On July 17, 2004, he married Elona Coffin at the Epiphany Catholic Church and had a daughter: Kristina and at this time Gerald’s step-daughter: Cassandra Morgan was added to the family.
He is survived by his wife: Elona Kaufmann of Spencer; his son, Jonathan Kaufmann of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Amanda Kaufmann, Kristina Kaufmann; Cassandra Morgan all of Spencer; his parents Gerald Sr. and Pat Kaufmann of Spencer; his brother: Scott (Linda) Kaufmann of Spencer; a sister: Gail (Greg) Roberts of Spencer; nephews, nieces, other family members and his friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara.
