HURON — The James Valley Christian Viking soccer team has opened its season with a tie and a victory.
The Vikings, ranked No. 3 in the Soccer605 preseason Class A poll, tied No. 5 ranked Tea Area 2-2 on the road Friday.
Saturday the Vikings opened their home schedule with a 2-0 victory over Mitchell Christian.
In the tie with Tea Area, the Titans scored the first two goals as senior Jordan Fechner found the back of the net twice.
His first goal came 12 minutes into the match and then added a second goal at the 40th minute just before the halftime whistle.
The Vikings answered back mid-way through the second half, striking twice in back-to-back minutes.
Junior Jon Blom scored in the 66th minute and then Tim Wager on an assist by junior Jayden Waldner tied it in the 67th minute.
Kellen Hood had three saves in goal for the Vikings and James Valley took 23 shots.
Saturday, the Vikings got a goal from Blom in the ninth minute with an assist by eighth grader Darrain Hood.
James Valley scored again in the 27th minute as eighth grader Colton Schweigert scored on a rebound.
Hood had three saves in the match and James Valley Christian took 25 shots.
The Tea junior varsity won Friday's match 8-1.
James Valley Christian will next be in action on Saturday against Sioux Falls Christian.
The Vikings next home game will be Thursday, Sept. 11 against Groton.
