Glacial Lakes Energy to use storage site near Miller
Posted: Monday, Jul 19th, 2010

MILLER – Glacial Lakes Energy LLC has entered into an agreement with Rogers Brothers Grain Storage to utilize its grain facility 14 miles north of Miller near the intersection of Highways 45/26.

The short-term agreement can be extended to a long-term one if the arrangement proves beneficial to both parties.

Glacial Lakes LLC has locations in Mina and Watertown.

“We want to provide service to our producer members in the Miller, Redfield and Faulkton area,” said Roger Hansen, the director of the Glacial Lakes grain commodities.

“This partnership allows us to do just that,” he said.

The site is a win-win as it will allow Glacial Lakes Energy to procure corn from a greater distance as well as provide security of corn supply in what appears to be a short crop year, he said. Since Glacial Lakes Energy in Mina has limited corn storage, the Rogers Brothers site is a natural fit as it increases storage capacity by 30 percent.

“Another benefit to the Rogers Brothers site is the utilization of transportation,” Hansen said. “We have a large number of distillers trucks that travel past this storage facility each day. We intend to use those trucks to bring corn from this site to Mina and backhaul distillers to our customers.”

The location has scales and testing equipment and will be staffed weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Glacial Lakes Energy will post a separate daily corn bid on its Web site and on DTN. Contracted or spot corn deliveries will be accepted at the offsite facility from members and nonmembers.

“It’s a great deal for the area market to have a local delivery point,” said Mike Rogers, owner of Rogers Brothers Grain Storage. “We look forward to serving the area producers as well as the members of GLE.”
