James “Jim” Ames, 69, of Mobridge and formerly of Miller, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Reck Funeral Home in Miller with the Rev. David Belzer officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery at Miller. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Visit www.familyfuneralhome.net.
James Ames was born June 18, 1941, to Wesley and Myrtle (Seeley) Ames at Miller. He attended Miller schools. He worked various jobs and owned and operated J & R Repair in Polo for several years.
On Aug. 14, 1982, he married Margaretha Schaefers. In 1987 they moved to Mobridge where he was employed at the Ford/New Holland and Case I.H. dealership. In 2003 he retired due to failing health and in 2009 moved to the Golden Living Center. He loved to fish and living along the Missouri River was a real joy to him.
He is survived by a son, Terry of Benton, Ark.; four stepsons, Allen Schaefers of Clear Lake, Larry Schaefers of South Shore, Lonnie Schaefers of Watertown and Randy Schaefers of Mobridge; a stepdaughter, Sandy Schaefers of Reno, Nev.; a brother, Larry (Nancy) of Miller; two sisters, Delores (Marvin) Nielsen of Custer and Jeanette (Milton) Campbell of Clarkston, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2009 and his parents.
