HURON — The Beadle County Humane Society hosted its 3rd annual “Walkin’ for Wheels” fundraiser at Ravine Lake on Saturday morning.
Animal lovers and walking enthusiasts gathered to show support for the Humane Society to raise funds for a much-needed new van. After three years of raising funds and putting money aside, the society is about halfway to its goal and the organizers are grateful for the support given by the community and volunteers.

“Thank you to the community for their support at these fundraisers and all year round, the volunteers have been a great asset,” said Kim Kruger, Beadle County Humane Society Director.
“We have a very nice dog park at the shelter for people to come out and exercise their dogs,” said Jean Brock, Vice President, “there are obstacles for the dogs, and benches and tables for use.”
Lisa Cornelius, President at the Humane Society said, “We are always welcoming and in need of new volunteers to come and socialize with the animals, to help them find ‘furever homes’ and be more adoptable.”
There will be a dog park reunion open house held by the Humane Society, Saturday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The dog park will be open and people can come out and see the animals. Free will donations will be accepted for hot dogs and chips, there will also be a bouncy house at the event.
