HURON — Fifteen service organizations and groups, providing assistance and opportunity in the Huron area received more than $42,000 in funding from the Huron Community Foundation (HCF) and the Wheeler Family Fund on Wednesday night.
The recipients were chosen by the HCF board from among the numerous applications that were received from nonprofit and volunteer groups in and around the Huron area. The proceeds of investments for HCF and the Wheeler Family Fund, held with the South Dakota Community Foundation, are what fuel the grants awarded Wednesday evening.
Two groups - the Centennial Stone Church and the Huron Municipal Band - will share $5,300 from the Wheeler Family Fund. The band will use the funding to cover costs of playing in Campbell Park this summer while the interior of the Stone Church, on the corner of 4th and Kansas, will receive fresh plaster and paint.
A wide range of organizations, providing a wider range of services, will benefit from HCF funding.
Photos and descriptions of the various grant recipients can be found on Page 6 of today’s Plainsman.
