Beadle sees highest active cases in more than a month

HURON — Active COVID-19 cases have continued to go down across the state, but in Beadle County, those cases have been slowly increasing over the last week, after declining steadily for the prior month.

In Friday’s numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH), the state added 148 new positive cases, six new deaths, and 181 new recovered cases. This dropped the active virus cases in the state to 2,028.

Beadle County added nine new positive cases, the most in a single day in 2021, but also marking the second time in a week that the county has added nine new positive cases. Beadle also added one new recovered case.

Active cases in the county rose to 77, the highest since the DOH reported 80 active cases on Jan. 17 in the county.

The Heartland Region reported one new death in Friday’s DOH numbers, the 107th death in the seven-county region. The death was reported in Clark County, the county’s 5th death of the pandemic.

The Heartland currently has 140 active virus cases.
