Beck, Remington earn all-state honors for Tigers

HURON — A pair of Huron football players were named to the 2021 Class 11AA all-state team, which was selected by the South Dakota High School Football Coaches Association and announced Wednesday.

Earning honors for the Tigers were seniors Jayden Beck and Ethan Remington. Although they handled duties on both sides of the ball during their final season of high school competition, both were named to the defensive unit.

Beck, who played three seasons at the varsity level for Huron, was one of five linebackers named to the team.

“Defensively, he did a great job in running down ball carriers from sideline to sideline,” Huron coach Scott Spanton said. “He plays with a chip on his shoulder and was a big leader of our defense as our Mike LB. We also utilized him in Nickel and Dime personnel to come off the edge as a stand up pass rusher.”

Beck recorded 77 tackles for the Tigers this season to go along with four sacks, eight tackles for a loss, a safety and a forced fumble. During his career, he had 116 tackles, six sacks, 12 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and interception.

“Jayden, if he chooses to pursue it, has not played the last football game of his career,” Spanton said. “He deserves all of these awards and anything that may arise in giving him some options to play at the collegiate level. His time and effort in the weight room, combined with his God-given talent have made him into a very good football player.”

Remington, who also spent three years at the varsity level, anchored the defensive line for the Tigers.

“Ethan has been the rock of consistency on our offensive and defensive lines for the past two seasons,” Spanton said. “He put in the time in the weight room and his commitment and work ethic have been an example for the younger players.”

This past season, Remington recorded 46 tackles, two sacks, six tackles for a loss and had a pair of forced fumbles. He had a total of 56 tackles during his career.

“As an interior defensive tackle, he did all the dirty work – taking on double teams and combination blocks in order to help free up our linebackers to make plays,” Spanton added of Remington. “He was very difficult to block in one-on-one situations.”

Remington also earned honorable mention of the offensive side of the ball for the Tigers.

“Ethan is another one, that if he so chooses, has a good opportunity to play somewhere at the collegiate level,” Spanton said.
