Blackhawks, Patriots win in region tournaments

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 55, Mitchell Christian 50
WOONSOCKET – After trailing for most of the game, the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks made a feverish comeback and took a late lead, holding on to defeat an undermanned Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles team by the score of 55-50 in Region 4B action Monday in Woonsocket.

Tryce Slykhuis led the Blackhawks with 16 points and eight rebounds to pace a quartet of double-figure scorers on the the night for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, who moves to 8-12. Jeff Boschee dropped in 14 points while Hayden Beigh added 12 points and Toby Kneen chipped in 11 points for the Blackhawks.

Mitchell Christian, who dressed just six players for the game, finishes the season with a 3-15 record. Nathanael Anderberg scored 29 points for the Golden Eagles, while Nahum Anderberg added 14 points.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket will travel to Howard tonight to face off against the top-seeded Tigers.

Hitchcock-Tulare 62, Lake Preston 57
LAKE PRESTON – The Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots finished the game with a rush, outscoring the Lake Preston Divers 20-7 in the final frame to come away with a 62-57 victory in opening round Region 3B action Monday night in Lake Preston

The Patriots move to 5-14 on the season behind the bench scoring of Jackson Maynard and TJ Salmen. Maynard led Hitchcock-Tulare with 19 points, including three 3-point baskets in the fourth quarter, while Salmen added 15 points, including six key points in the fourth quarter.

The Divers finish the season at 7-13. Jasper Denison led the way with 22 points while Carter Malone chipped in 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace Lake Preston.

Hitchcock-Tulare advances to battle the top-ranked De Smet Bulldogs tonight in De Smet.

ARLINGTON – The Arlington Cardinals jumped out to a double-digit halftime lead and cruised to a 63-29 victory over the Iroquois-Doland Chiefs in the opening round of Region 3B action Monday night in Arlington.

Ryker Erstad led the Cardinals with 27 points as they moved to 9-12 on the season. Chris Wallace added 15 points and led Arlington with eight rebounds.

The Chiefs finish the year with a record of 0-20. Justin Bice and Tobias Arbeiter led the scoring for Iroquois-Doland with seven points apiece.

Bice grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to pace the Chiefs.
