Brookings inks win against All-Stars

HURON — In a matchup between the teams, which are fourth and fifth in the league standings, Brookings recorded a 4-1 win against the Huron All-Stars on Saturday at Bergman Arena.
The Rangers had the lone goal of the first period, with Alec Rice scoring on an unassisted shot.
Brookings then needed just 22 seconds in the second period to stretch its lead to 2-0. Charles Marshall scored on a pass from Cody Nikalson.
The Rangers were able to go ahead 3-0 on a goal by Luc Bouchard just over five minutes into the second period. He score on a pass from Carter Merritt.
Huron’s lone goal of the game capped the scoring in the second period.
Xavier Erickson found the net on an unassisted shot to make to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Maxwell Kjelden had the lone goal in the final period for Brookings, scoring on a pass from Wes Koenig.
The Rangers, who are 5-5, finished with 36 shots on goal, while Huron had 30 shots.
Phillip Kuechenmeister had 30 saves to earn the win in the net for Brookings.
Jacob Wehde had 32 saves for the All-Stars, who are now 6-6.
Huron is now off until Jan. 27, when it travels to face Sioux Center in a 11:45 a.m. game.
Junior varsity
Brookings edged Huron 3-2 in a junior varsity matchup on Saturday at Bergman Arena.
After scoring a goal in the first period, the Rangers needed a pair of goals, including one in the final minute to secure the win.
Both goals for the All-Stars came in the second period.
Connor McCloud put Huron on the board, scoring on a pass from Jayden Bogh.
Josiah Savery had the second goal on an unassisted shot.
Marty Boetel had 41 saves for Huron.
