Donated bikes for bike curriculum received Tuesday

HURON — The Buchanan K-1 Center received a donation on Tuesday of 24 student strider bikes and one instructor bike for a bike riding instruction course that will begin in the next school year.
The bikes, which come with a pedal kit as the students progress through learning the skills, were provided through a coordinated donation, orchestrated by the Huron Fire Department and delivered by Klock Werks of Mitchell through All Kids Bike.
Brian Klock, owner of Klock Werks, introduced the students to the bicycles before the students donned helmets and began to ride.
Brian Klock of Klock Werks introduced the children to the bikes and how to ride on them before having multiple members of his “Klock Werks team” assist students with helmet fitting, bike fitting, and then leading the class that was present on a ride around the Buchanan gym for multiple laps to become acquainted with the bike.
Jeremy Noyes, physical education instructor at Buchanan, was on hand as well as Buchanan principal Peggy Heinz to help students as well.

All Kids Bike is a program in all 50 states, which strives to provide donated strider bikes to schools for the purpose of educating Kindergarten students on riding bikes. There are currently 116 schools in S.D., impacting 9,536 students. Total programs running across all 50 states is 962 teaching approximately 111,000 kids how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class.
The bikes assist students in learning to ride a bike, building balance, and gaining self-confidence as the school curriculum progresses throughout the year, eventually adding pedals to get the full experience of biking.

Huron Fire Chief Ron Hines reported that fundraising of more than $6,000 went into the donation. Klock stated that he has been part of donating to multiple schools in the area and multiple schools are working on fundraising after applying at allkidsbike.org to be part of the program.
“The money we raise at our Pre-Sturgis party helps raise money for this,” Klock noted. “Last year’s party actually provided the money for these bikes (referring to the donation to Buchanan).”
The bikes will be part of Buchanan curriculum beginning in 2023-2024.
