Christmas Basket preps for 73rd program

HURON — The 73rd annual Salvation Army Christmas Basket Program is set for Monday through Thursday; Nov. 29 through Dec. 2, at the Huron High School Auditorium.

This year’s event begins at 6:30 p.m. each night and is jam packed with musical entertainment. Broadcast of Christmas Basket may be heard live on KOKK 1210 AM radio, viewed on the Huron Tiger Network (Midco channel 6) or on the web at Christmasbasket.us.

Funds raised through phone pledges made during the four nights of Christmas Basket are used to provide Christmas food baskets, and contribute to food programs throughout the year, for less fortunate families in Huron and the surrounding areas.

Twenty groups make up this year’s entertainment package, beginning Monday night with the Huron Middle School seventh and eighth grade chorus, followed by the Huron High School concert choir, the HHS Madrigals, the high school concert band and wrapping up with the HHS Jazz band.

On Tuesday, Nov. 30, the James Valley Christian School choir will lead things off, followed by the JVCS band, then the Wolsey-Wessington High School choir, the W-W band and the final group of the evening is the Huron School faculty choir.

Wednesday evening is church group night, as the Mount Calvary Church choir will kick things off, followed by the Bethesda Church Group, the Holy Trinity Choir of Angels, the First United Methodist Church choir and drawing to a close with the First United Methodist Praise Team.

The final night of entertainment will open with the Huron High School orchestra, then the Huron Middle School honors orchestra, the Huron Chamber orchestra, the Huron Middle School seventh and eighth grade band and the Huron Municipal Band will close the four-night program.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend any or all of the live performances throught Christmas Basket - there is no admission charge.
