HURON — The Huron City Commission set May 24 as the sunset date for Resolution No. 2021-02, the city’s combined COVID-19 resolution. Mayor Gary Harrington cited the same date being targeted by the school district and county as the reason for the specific day targeted.
Commissioner Bryan Smith noted that multiple businesses in town continue to maintain signage encouraging masks in their place of business. After the resolution is sunset, those businesses would have the right to continue to encourage mask wearing in their business.
City assistant engineer Dennis Bennett presented the commission with a payment request from Asphalt Paving & Materials Company for $271,926.22. Bennett noted that spring paving is anticipated to be complete on Tuesday. Commissioners approved the payment request.
Bennett also presented the bid for the Vantage Park sanitary sewer construction. The entire project has a budget of $1,702,000, and Menning Excavating, Inc. of Mitchell submitted the low bid of 1,151,452.45. Bennett explained that the city would also have pipe costs on top of that, but should come in well below budget.
Commissioners renewed the irrigation contract with Huron Country Club, retroactive to April 1. Commissioner Smith noted that other than a cost of living increase, the contract remained static.
The commission also approved an inter-local contract for cooperative purchasing with HGACBuy to allow for better purchase options for city departments.
Commissioners also:
• Set May 24 as the public hearing date to consider annual malt beverage and South Dakota farm wine license renewals.
