Clark-Willow Lake defeats Panthers to stay undefeated

MITCHELL — In a battle between state-ranked teams, No. 2 Clark-Willow Lake rolled to a 62-41 victory against No. 4 Timber Lake during the Hanson Classic held Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
The Cyclones, who stayed unbeaten at 8-0, outscored Timber lake 21-5 in the second quarter to take command.
Jacob Prouty and Stone Burke each had 21 points to lead Clark-Willow Lake, while Micah Burke also reached double figures with 15 points.
Micah Burke and Stone Burke snagged 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively, to help the Cyclones to a 35-26 advantage on the boards. Prouty had six assists and three steals.
Isaac Kraft had 15 points for the Panthers, who are now 8-2, while Tucker Kraft had 10 points and six rebounds.
Clark-Willow Lake traveled to face Great Plains Lutheran in Watertown on Monday. The Cyclones will host Groton Area in Clark on Friday.

Ipswich 60, JVC 52
HURON — Ipswich snapped James Valley Christian’s 4-game winning streak on Saturday with a 60-52 victory.
The Tigers, who improved to 7-5, connected on 21 of 55 shots from the field, including nine from beyond the 3-point arc.
After leading 21-17 after the first quarter, Ipswich outscored the Vikings 15-9 in the second quarter for a 36-26 advantage at the half. The Tigers led 47-38 heading into the final period and held on for the win.
Ty Kadlec converted on five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 21 points for Ipswich. Will Kadlec also reached double figures with 10 points, while Ben Kulesa had seven points and Jadon Onken and Carson Simes finished with six points each.
Onken also had eight rebounds for the Tigers, while Kulesa had four assists.
 Darrian Hood had 14 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists to lead the Vikings, who are now 6-5.
Josh Wieting had 13 points, while Colton Schweigert had 10 points.
JVC will host Highmore-Harrold in a 281 Conference matchup today.

Highmore-Harrold 55, McCook Central/Montose 46
SALEM — With four players reaching double figures in the scoring column, Highmore-Harrold recorded a 55-46 victory against McCook Central-Montrose on Saturday.
The Pirates, who improved to 8-4 led 19-13 after the opening quarter, but saw their lead shrink to just one at the half, 32-31.
Highmore-Harrold limited the Fighting Cougars to just four points in the third quarter, which ended with the Pirates holding a 43-35 advantage.
Treymaine Eagle Thunder-Alger had 15 points to lead Highmore-Harrold. Dylan McDonnell and Jharett Bloomenrader finished with 13 points each, while Remington Paynter had 10 points.
Bloomenrader also had a team-high 12 rebounds and two assists for the Pirates.
Trey Anderson was the lone player to reach double figures for McCook Central/Montrose with 12 points. Koltan Lindstrom and Collin Kolbeck had nine and eight points, respectively.
Both teams return to action today. Highmore-Harrold is at James Valley Christian, while the Fighting Cougars host Freeman in Montrose.

WOLSEY — Wolsey-Wessington limited Potter County to just three points in the first and third quarters en route to a 43-27 victory on Saturday.
After leading 11-3 following the first quarter, the Lady Warbirds clung to a 19-17 advantage at the half.  Wolsey-Wessington opened a 28-20 lead heading into the final quarter and pulled away for the win.
Raquel Nelson had 10 points, which included an 8-of-10 performance from the free-throw line, to lead the Lady Warbirds, who improved to 6-4. Cortney Sprecher had nine points, while Ally Boomsma, Lizzi Brandt and Hailey Clark all had six points each.
Jenna Robbennolt was the lone player to reach double figures for the Lady Battlers, who are now 4-7. She converted on 7 of 12 shots from the free-throw line.
Wolsey-Wessington travels to face Sunshine Bible Academy in a 281 Conference matchup today.

HURON — Ipswich outscored James Valley Christian 26-17 in the opening half en route to a 59-43 victory on Saturday.
Kamryn Heinz had 25 points to lead three players in double figures for the Tigers, who improved to 7-3.
Halle Heinz had 16 points, while Abigail Grabowska added 14 points.
Grabowska also had a team-high seven rebounds for Ipswich. Kamryn Heinz had four assists, while Halle Heinz had four steals.
Brenna Held paced James Valley Christian with 16 points, while Karilyn Wieting added 14 points.
Wieting also had eight rebounds and five assists for the Lady Vikings, who are now 3-6.
JVC will host Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Thursday.
