Commission okays space for VA program

Posted

HURON — The Beadle County Commission heard plans from Veterans Service Officer Taylor Jans regarding Veteran’s Administration (VA) tele-health programs throughout the state and the opportunity to host one in Beadle County.
The commission approved use of space in the county courthouse for the service, which will allow VA patients to meet with doctors through video appointments. State VA representatives hope to have the Beadle County location operational in January of 2020.
County commissioners also heard from Beadle County Highway Superintendent Merl Hanson. He presented grant applications, utility certificates, and right-of-way certificates for two bridge projects, discussed gravel needs and bids, and received approval for purchase of an iPad and a service plan for the device to be used in field work.
Beadle County Sheriff Doug Solem presented the commission with the resignation of jailor Rick Kuestermeyer, effective July 2020. Future hiring plans were discussed but not formalized at this time.

Solem also received approval to purchase four tasers, which did not require any additional budget funds.
County commissioners approved a proposed variance to lots 1-2 and vacated public ROW in Northwest 1/4 35-113-61 W. E Tschetter Subdivision and Lot 3 Willard & Ellen Tschetter Subdivision to Lake Byron.
Commissioners also:
— Approved 2020 Joint Cooperative Agreement with Northeast Council of Governments
— Approved Memorandum of Understanding for 2020 between Beadle County and SDSU Extension
— Approved Res 12-01-19 “Plat of Halbur Tracts 2 & 3” pending payment of taxes and other required signatures and approvals
— Approved designating miscellaneous metal as surplus
The Beadle County Commission’s next meeting is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 in the Commission room on the second floor of the Beadle County Courthouse.
