HURON — David Kallappa, Sr., 79, of Huron, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at his daughter’s home with his family at his side.


His memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Huron Church of the Open Bible. Military honors will be conducted by Huron Veterans Council.


Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.


David Grant Kallappa was born Dec. 2, 1942, to James and Josephine (Dan) Kallappa at Neah Bay, Wash.


David served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.


He devoted his life to the Lord with 55 years of ministry.


David enjoyed playing chess and cribbage, throwing horseshoes, going fishing and whittling wood. Finding treasures at a good price during auctions was his favorite pastime. He cherished the time he spent with his family.


He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Josephine; his first wife, Janice; three brothers, Hallie Joe, Edward and Morris; and two sisters, Diane and Rosie Jane.


Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Marvel; four children, Rose, Grant, Hallie and Sylvia; one son-in-law, Ronald Oestreich; three bonus children, Jeremy “Pepper” Thin Elk, Melody One Feather and Robert “Boo” Many Horses.


Grandpa David will be deeply missed by his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.


He will also be missed by his brothers, James, George and William; and many nieces and nephews.
