Gilbertson collects modified feature victory at MCS

Posted

It was a sticky night at the Miller Central Speedway with just a little wind from the south. There were 65 cars in the pits, with the evening sponsored by Hartman Construction. There was $1000 to win on the line for the WISSOTA Modifieds. The track held up well in the conditions and there were few yellow flags.

The Pump N Pak Pure Stocks were the first as always with Mike Hammill leading the first five laps before slowing with Jayden Michaelson taking over the rest of the way over Brenden Rassel, Destrie Morris, Cody Songer and Wyatt Brooker. It was Michaelson’s eighth feature win at Miller, tying him with Kyle Elsen for seventh on the win list.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks went start to finish, with Preston Blackwell leading the first lap before Broc Stout powered past for the win over Jodie Michaelson, Zach Pollock, James Hoing and Blackwell. It was Stout’s 31st feature win, tying him with Blayne Baloun for first on the all-time list for the class.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds put on the race of the night with Robert Harder, leading a lap before giving way to Brad Kopecky. Kopecky led 10 laps before Adam Brotherton got by for the win over Kopecky, Dawson Zabel, Jayme Peterson and Michael Bogh. It was Brotherton’s fifth win at the track, tying him with Kyle Knouse for fourth. He dedicated his win to family friend David Bennett who passed this week. It was his first feature win at Miller since May 9, 2017.

In the WISSOTA Modified main, Matt Gilbertson jumped off of outside pole and ran away with the money for his second feature win at the speedway with Alex Guthmiller, Mike Stearns, Ryan Damm and Nick Wranek rounding out the top five. It was Gilbertson’s first win at the track since Aug. 21, 2016.

By the WISSOTA Super Stock feature the track was slicking off. Cody Martin led off of the outside pole and led all the way over Kipp DeGroot, Jeremy North, Casey Hanson and Dale Tomes. It was Martin’s first feature win at the Miller Central Speedway.

With lightning in the north the WISSOTA Late Model finished off the night with Curt Gelling leading the first three laps before Chad Becker slid around and led the rest of the way for his 18th feature win followed by Gelling, Josh Skorczewski, David Carlson and Cole Searing.

There will be no racing this Saturday night as Aberdeen has brought back the traditional Rumble race with $10,000 to the Late Model winner. The next race is July 18 with all six classes. The WISSOTA Street Stocks will be part of the Steffes Street Stock Tour, a new series. Starting time is 7 p.m.
