HURON — Gladys D. Schilling, 95, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
Her funeral service will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery of Huron. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Welter Funeral Home with her family present from 6 to 7 p.m., or one hour prior to the start of the service on Saturday. A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.   
Gladys D. Schilling was born November 30, 1923, at rural Hitchcock to parents Fred Sr. and Ida (Avery) Jockheck. She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Hitchcock High School. Gladys then attended Wessington Springs Junior College and Huron College.
Gladys married Elmer Oestrich in 1956 and lived on a farm south of Virgil. William (Billy) Oestrich, Elmer’s nephew and son of Albert and Alene Oestrich, made his home with Gladys and Elmer and was like a son to them. He passed away in November of 1969, and is buried in the Virgil Cemetery. Elmer passed away in 1981.
 Gladys taught in rural schools for 23 years and Wessington public schools for 14 years. Gladys retired in 1984 and moved to Huron.
Gladys married Wayne Puffer in 1986, he passed later that same year. Gladys found love again when she married Edward Schilling in 1994. Edward passed away in 2006.
Gladys was a member of Schmidt Barnes American Legion Aux., Forrest McMillian VFW Aux. 1776, Jolly Neighbor Club, Mount Calvary Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and Huron Area Senior Center. Gladys was very crafty and loved to crochet. In recent years, she became an accomplished artist, spending many hours coloring in adult coloring books.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; three stepchildren, Karen Quiram, Janice Getscher, and Dennis Schilling; six stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Arlene Jockheck, Elma Burns, and Irene McCullum.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; her siblings, Florence, Donald, Fred, and Stanley; and her nephews, Robert Reno, and Martin Jockheck.
