VIDALIA, Ga., — Harriette Elaine Fuerst, 83, of Vidalia, Ga., passed away Friday, June 26, 2020, at her home after an extended illness.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, with Tom Fuerst officiating.
Harriette was born and reared in Woonsocket, and lived in Wessington Springs, most of her life.
She also lived in Burke, and she and her late husband were in motel management in Neb. and S.D.
She later moved to Vidalia in 2017.
She worked as a secretary for the Gregory County Sheriff’s Office for several years and was Lutheran by faith.
She is survived by one son, David Fuerst and Greg May; four grandchildren, Tom (Cassie) Fuerst, Michelle Fuerst, Tim (Ashley) Fuerst, and Travis (Jordan) Fuerst; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Merle Suratt and Linda Rountree.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmore “Jeff” Fred Fuerst; a son, Tom Fuerst; a great-grandson, Bradyn; and her parents, Burr Decker and Martha Decker Thomas.
