The Anderson Family has decorated a tree at the Capitol this year in honor of the 140th anniversary of their family farm, Homestead Acres.
Remington Smith, the granddaughter of Martin and Carol Anderson, is standing next to the tree in Pierre in the photo above. Remington is part of the sixth generation at Homestead Acres.
The Anderson Homestead originated with Bengt Anderson, who was born in Sweden in 1849. He came to Dakota in 1882 with about $2,000, and staked a claim southeast of Hitchcock.
