HRMC construction projects kickoff event set

HURON — Huron Regional Medical Center invites the public to the construction kickoff for the HRMC Physicians Clinic expansion and medical imaging remodeling projects on Monday, June 14, at 9 a.m.
The event is the official start to a $9.3 million construction project which will transform the hospital’s multi-specialty clinic, located just south of the main campus, from a single-story structure to a two-level clinic and add 23,500 square feet of space to accommodate an additional 10 physicians.

“This vertical expansion of our clinic makes space to accommodate the addition of three new physicians who will arrive over the next five months, as well as staff and patients of Tschetter & Hohm Clinic,” said Erick Larson, president and CEO of Huron Regional Medical Center.

In July of this year, HRMC will assume operations of Tschetter & Hohm Clinic, which has been the health care home for thousands of families in the region since it was founded after World War II.

“My family has cared for patients at the same office since Christmas of 1949,” said Dr. Robert Hohm, internist at Tschetter & Hohm Clinic. “As the clinic’s partners plan to retire, I wanted to transition the clinic in an orderly fashion, before the transition turned into an emergency situation.”

During the construction phase, Tschetter & Hohm Clinic staff and the physicians will remain in their current location until the clinic expansion project is complete next summer, according to Larson.

The second part of the project, which also kicks off Monday, includes remodeling portions of the southeast section of the main hospital, which was built in 1983.

The imaging department remodel, which brings the total project cost to $14.9 million, will accommodate the addition of new state-of-the-art MRI and 3D mammography.
