HURON — Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its April Exceptional Employee of the Month, Jessica King, with a small department celebration earlier this month.

King, who has worked as a housekeeper at HRMC for nearly 14 years, was nominated by co-workers to receive the honor.

According to the nomination, “Jessica has a passion for helping others, a dream for the future and a lot of determination!”

“Committed to HRMC and her dream of becoming a nurse, Jessica stepped out of her comfort zone and enrolled in the licensed practical nursing program at Lake Area Technical College. Thanks to her hard work, she completed the program in two years, while working and caring for her young family,” the nomination continued. “As a new licensed LPN apprentice, Jessica’s dedication to her education is an inspiration to those around her, while she realizes her dream of becoming a nurse.”

HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable.

Employees can be nominated by other co-workers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.

As April exceptional employee, King received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.

King started her HRMC career at just 16 years old as a part-time housekeeper. In March 2021, she passed her nursing boards and earned her license. She recently transitioned from housekeeping to the role of LPN apprentice and will now complete 2,000 hours of guided and paid practice designed to allow her to master her skills as an LPN and find the perfect fit for her as a nurse at HRMC.

King lives in Huron with her boyfriend and three children, two boys ages 10 and 5, and a daughter, age 7. They are expecting a baby boy in June. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors.
