HURON — Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recognized its January Exceptional Employee of the Month, Shining Moon, nurse aide, for her positive impact on coworkers, patients and their families.
Moon, who has worked at HRMC for just over a year, was nominated by co-workers to receive the honor.
Nominations centered around Moon’s attention to detail, willingness to help others and excellent care shown to patients. One nominating co-worker recounted a recent event, “An emergency situation unfolded and Shining was called to a patient’s bedside to assist and translate.”
“She stayed with the patient for the entire procedure,” the nomination continued. “During the course of surgery, Shining successfully communicated to the doctor and rest of the team that the patient’s wishes had changed. She was extremely helpful in a high-stress situation and was a huge asset to the patient and staff.”
“I feel great when I get to help others in need,” explained Moon. As a nurse aide who speaks English and Karen, Moon often accommodates many departments of the hospital with translation needs, ”Good communication is key to avoid misunderstanding each other,” she stated.
HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being helpful, accessible and knowledgeable. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees by the HRMC board of directors.
As January exceptional employee, Moon received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.
Moon has lived in Huron for 12 years and enjoys continually learning new things and experiences in her work. Her mother, Lah Say, also works at HRMC in the HRMC Physicians Clinic lab and as an interpreter.
Patients or visitors can nominate an exceptional employee by calling 605-353-6539 for a nomination form or via e-mail at hr@huronregional.org.
