Huber leads Huron golfers in Yankton

YANKTON — For the second day in a row, the O’Gorman Lady Knights found themselves on top of the team standings after an invitational golf tournament. After topping the field at Thursday’s Huron Invite, O’Gorman fired a team total of 335 to earn the hardware at the Yankton Invitational.

The Lady Knights’ total put them eight strokes ahead of the Mitchell Kernels, while the host Yankton Gazelles took third with a 366, as they edged Harrisburg by five strokes. Huron had a team total of 398 on the day, placing them eighth as a team.

Shannon McCormick of O’Gorman took medalist honors with a two-over-par score of 75. Reese Jansa, who took top honors Thursday in Huron was second with a 79 and O’Gorman’s Lauren Sutcliffe was third, one stroke behind Jansa and one ahead of Tanna Phares of R.C. Stevens.

Huron was led by Bryn Huber’s 86, which placed her in a three-way tie for seventh place, while teammate Karlie Bigelow was in a tie at 28th with a 96. Kenya Bigelow shot 105 and Libby Picek carded a 111 to round out the Tigers’ scoring.

Huron returns to action on Friday, at the Mitchell Invitational.
