Huron cross country competes in Brookings

BROOKINGS – Huron Tiger cross country runners participated in the Russ Strande Invite Tuesday in Brookings.

Brandon Valley swept the team titles in varsity boys’ and girls’ events. Huron’s boys finished fifth in team standings in the boys and third in the girls.

Cashton Johnson won the boys’ event for Harrisburg with a time of 16:02.61. Cheech Harman was the top Tiger finisher, claiming 10th place with a time of 17:17.81. TJ Lien was right behind him in 11th place, with a time of 17:21.51. Angel Olivo Porcayo finished 31st with a time of 18:20.28.

Brandon Valley’s Addison Scholten won the girls’ race by nearly a minute, finishing in 18:28.94.

Huron’s Victoriah Buffington, Josie Vlieger, and Lily Meyer finished 29th, 30th, and 31st with times of 21:27.56, 21:29.56, and 21:32.22.

Aberdeen Central’s Joseph Perkins won the boys’ junior varsity race with a time of 14:20.66. James Weir finished 22nd with a time of 15:22.12.

Abby Moore of Sioux Falls Jefferson led the girls’ junior varsity run with a time of 16:58.97. Ellie Puterbaugh of Huron finished 12th with a time of 18:13.31 while the Tigers’ Nora Pester finished 18th with a 18:33.32 time.

Trevor Lounsbury of Brookings won the boys’ middle school run as the Bobcats swept seven of the top eight spots. Joshua Olivo of Huron finished 16th with a 12:48.55 time and Henry Kruse finished 23rd with a 13:11.19.

Watertown’s Grace McElroy won the girls’ middle school race in 11:43.13. Kayleigh Nicola paced the Huron girls with a 19th place finish and 13:34.31 time while Kinsley Armstrong finished 34th with a time of 14:16.63.
