Huron’s Evers commits to play at DWU

Teegan Evers is trading colors, but he’ll still be a Tiger.
The Huron High School boys basketball player has committed to play basketball at Dakota Wesleyan University. The commitment comes after Evers originally pledged to play at fellow Great Plains Athletic Conference member Jamestown University.
Shortly after he committed to the Jimmies, he felt he made the wrong decision and opted to play closer to home.
“I like the program,” Evers said about DWU. “It’s a great location for me. I have a bunch of family in Mitchell and they gave me a nice offer.”
Evers also had a scholarship offer from NAIA school Mayville State. NCAA Division II schools University of Mary and Bemidji State were also talking to him. But neither school had offered him.
He also recently attended DWU’s win over No. 1 Morningside College at the Corn Palace. The win in front of 3,057 fans helped cement his decision. He also helped Huron defeat Mitchell earlier this season at iconic venue, finishing with 16 points and four rebounds.

He also put an exclamation point on the rivalry win with an alley-oop jam from fellow senior and Northern State commit Kobe Busch.
“It’s probably my favorite gym in South Dakota besides ours,” Evers said about the Corn Palace. “It has great crowds and they are always into it.”
He’s now looking forward to the rest of his senior season.
“It took a lot of stress off my shoulders and now I feel like I am playing at my best level now,” Evers said.
He certainly is. Huron (13-4) is currently No. 4 in Class AA and just knocked off No. 3 Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 67-53. Evers finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the win.
The 6-foot-5 wing is averaging a team-high 16.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He’s scored in double figures in all 17 games this season and has scored 20 or more points four times. He netted a season-high 25 points against Rapid City Central on Dec. 21.
Evers was a second-team all-stater last season, averaging 18.4 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Tigers.
Evers said he will bring length, scoring and athleticism to DWU. He’s undecided on his major.
