Jean Ellen Kaberna was born on May 9, 1938, at Wagner, South Dakota to Frank and Josephine (Novak) Kaberna. She attended country school for the first six years, and then public school in Wagner graduating in 1956. At the encouragement of her Father, she attended the University of South Dakota Springfield for three years and obtained her teaching certificates. In 1987, at the age of 50, she returned to college to complete her degree in Education from Huron University in 1988.
She taught in a country school and in Salem, Bonesteel, Fairfax and Saint Martin, Huron. She was an aide in Special Education and a substitute teacher in the Huron School System. The years that she didn’t teach, she devoted her time in caring for her son Douglas. Douglas had cerebral palsy.
In 1962, she married Robert Rademacher and in 1972 they moved to Huron. She was baptized and confirmed as an American Lutheran in the Wolf Creek Unity Lutheran Church near Clayton.
Jean enjoyed animals. She raised and sold Corgis. Over the years she sold many Corgi puppies. Before she sold a puppy, she would check out the buyers as she wanted to be sure they went to a good home and were taken care of. She kept a file as to where each puppy went. At times she would contact the buyers as to how the puppies were doing. Her day was made when one of her puppies appeared on Animal World herding cattle in Montana. She sold Corgis all over the United States. She also loved and had cats for many years.
She loved driving her blue 1979 Pontiac Firebird and had it restored. She always looked forward to spending time at their acreage near Fort Randall and Wagner. Very seldom did she miss watching a Twins telecast and also enjoyed attending Twins ballgames.
Jean is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert ‘Bob’ Rademacher; her children, Rhonda (Mike) Tompkins of Miller, and Ryan (Theresa) Rademacher of New York City, N.Y.; two grandsons, Daxton Diede of Vermillion, and Deric Diede of Watertown; a brother, Frank Kaberna of Wagner; a sister, Karen (David) Brown of Wagner; and two sisters-in-law, Carol Kaberna of Lake Andes, and Brigitta Hofer of Bridgewater.
She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas; her parents, Frank and Josephine; a brother, Donald; her father and mother in-law, George and Alvina (Stern) Rademacher; her brother-in-law and his wife, Otto and Violet Rademacher; and her brother-in-law, Larry Hofer.
