Lady Warbirds third at Gettysburg Invite

GETTYSBURG — The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds lost only one match on the day - to the eventual tournament champion Faulkton Area Trojans, as they claimed third place at the Lady Battler Invitational Tournament Saturday.

Faulkton Area down Wolsey-Wessington 25-18 and 25-19 in pool play to open the tournament. The Lady Warbirds rebounded, however, to down Faith 25-18 and 25-11, then annihilated McIntosh 25-12 and 25-11 to finish second in the pool and qualify for the third-place match against Phillip.

In that match, Wolsey-Wessington shut out the Scotties, 25-19 and 25-16, as Leah Williams connected on 11 kills and had two aces to lead the effort. Mya Boomsma added six kills and seven digs and Macie Luce had a pair of aces and eight set assists. Taylor Horn also had eight assists, while Lainey Uttecht collected six digs.

Faulkton Area defeated the host team Potter County 25-17 and 25-22 for the championship.

Wolsey-Wessington, now 20-3 on the season, will host Highmore-Harrold on Tuesday.

Warner takes Redfield Invitational
REDFIELD — The Warner Monarchs never dropped a set Saturday, en route to winning the Pheasant Fall Volleyball Classic. Warner defeated Belle Fourche 26-24 and 25-12, and also Groton Area, 25-8 and 25-12 in pool play, before dominating Florence-Henry 25-19 and 25-10 in the semifinals and then knocking off Beresford 25-12 and 25-13 for the championship.

In pool play, Redfield dropped a 2-1 match to Florence-Henry, 25-17, 28-26 and 25-23, then overpowered Waverly-South Shore, 25-11 and 25-16 to move into the consolation pool. There, Redfield fell 2-1 (22-27, 25-23 and 25-22) to Miller, before dropping another 2-1 decision (22-25, 25-17 and 25-18) to Belle Fourche.

Miller finished on top of the consolation pool at the invite, as the Rustlers took a 25-21,25-17 win over Webster in the opening round, then fell 25-21, 25-22 to Beresford. In the consolation round, the Rustlers took out Redfield 2-1, then slipped past Belle Fourche for the consolation pool win.

Ava Nilsson, Kami Anderson and Courtney Bjorgaard of Warner led the All-Tournament team, which also included Camryn Rohlfs of Redfield, as well as both Cynthia Ford and Tyra Gates of Miller.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 3, De Smet 0
OLDHAM — The Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders blanked the De Smet Lady Bulldogs Saturday night, in non-conference volleyball action. Set scores for the Raiders, who improve to 11-8 on the season, were 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21. De Smet falls to 11-7.

Julia Trygstad had 14 kills and two blocks to lead O-R/R, while Paige Hanson had 17 assists and Alivia Bickett led the defense with 21 digs.

Kennadi Buchholz had 10 kills, five blocks and seven digs to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Katelyn Halverson had a pair of aces and nine assists in the match.

De Smet travels to Hamlin on Tuesday.
