To the Editor:
When South Dakota’s legislators vote on bills that raise our taxes, a 60% majority vote is required. This is an important safety measure to ensure that any tax-increasing legislation be compelling enough to earn the support of a ‘super majority’ of our representatives in Pierre.
Amendment C will apply that same standard to initiated ballot measures that impose significant and permanent new tax burdens on our citizens.
Amendment C is particularly important in protecting hard-working, tax-paying citizens of South Dakota from future initiated measures that are heavily funded by outside ‘dark money’ organizations.
Keep South Dakota strong and free by requiring a ‘super majority’ on ballot measures that raise our taxes.
Vote “yes” on Amendment C.
