BROOKINGS — Lorna J. Gubbins, 89, of Brookings, formerly of Iroquois, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the United Living Community in Brookings.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery at Iroquois. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lorna J. Bensley was born May 9, 1929, in Iroquois to Wesley and Anna (Kuehl) Bensley. She attended Iroquois High School. She was united in marriage to John Gubbins June 1, 1946. She worked for Raven Industries until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Iroquois and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Gubbins of Littleton, Colo., David Gubbins of Plattsburg, N.Y., Darrell Gubbins of Sioux Falls, Kevin Gubbins of Monroe, Iowa, Keith Gubbins of Sioux Falls, Mark Gubbins of Iroquois, Cynthia Smith of De Smet, Joyce Delvaux of Brookings, Kay Christiansen of Mitchell, Mary Johnston of Brookings, Theresa Young of Aurora, Mo., and Lynne DeJong of Iroquois; 27 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; granddaughter, Sharron Rock; and seven siblings.
