HURON — LuAnne Fritzsche, 90, of Huron and formerly of Wessington, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Avantara Huron with her family by her side.

Her Memorial Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Welter Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will begin at 4 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Wessington Cemetery.

LuAnne Williams was born Jan. 10, 1932, to A.H. (Bud) and Dorothy (Otto) Williams on the Otto farm near Vayland. She was baptized on Jan. 15, 1933 at Divine Services in the Community Church at Vayland. At the age of four, her family moved to California, where the family grew with the addition of her brother, Doug.

In 1941, upon their return to South Dakota, she attended the Otto School and graduated 8th grade at Springdale School near Vayland. In her own words, “it was a pretty simple childhood full of trials and tribulations like most.”  She graduated from Wessington High School in 1950.

On Jan. 13, 1951, LuAnne was united in marriage to Leonard E. Fritzsche at the Wessington Community Church in Wessington. LuAnne and Leonard lived on the Earl Fritzsche homestead near Wessington where they created a full life together, with LuAnne raising their family (Kevin and Jeff) and helping her husband in farming and the Len’s Grocery store business venture.

To her family she was the best cook ever, whether it was a holiday meal, taking food to the field, or her famous strawberry pie. The couple enjoyed socializing with friends and dances, where Len would play his trumpet. LuAnne loved singing and was active in Harmonette’s and the Sweet Adeline’s choir. She was a proud 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In June of 1998, they moved to Wessington where a true joy for LuAnne was joining in on the local coffee group gathering every morning.
Her most treasured role was that of Grandma – as they followed their grandchildren to every basketball game, track meet, football game, prom, baseball game, homecoming, award presentation, and every race at Dakota State Fair Speedway.

Those left to cherish her life are her husband of 71 years, Leonard, of Huron (formerly of Wessington); two sons, Kevin (Gayleen Parsons), of Huron; Jeffrey (Holly Kahle), of Wessington; two grandchildren, Jessica (Kip) Tschetter, of Huron and their children, Brailey, Skye and Storm; Jason (Devin) Fritzsche, of Huron and their children, Abbi, Allison, Axel and Alivia; brother, Douglas (Mary) Williams, of Huron; Kevin’s family; Sherry (Laina, MacKenzie, Addison), Darrel (Brayden, Sonora), Jeff’s extended family; Kailen, Karsyn, Padyn, Riggin and many nieces and nephews.

LuAnne was preceded in death by her parents; and one niece, Jonna Williams.

LuAnne will be deeply missed by the many people who loved her.
