HURON — Marita Montgomery, 92, of Huron, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023, at her home in Huron.


Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.


Private burial will take place at St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation with her family present will be one hour prior to the service Thursday morning at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.


Marita Mary King was born on Nov.1, 1930, in Murdo to parents Roy L. and Myrtle M. (Engel) King. She grew up in Madison, Neb., graduating from high school in 1947. Marita attended Black Hills State University before moving to Huron.

She worked for the Department of Agriculture before meeting her husband, Keith Montgomery. Marita and Keith married on Valentine’s Day, 1952 in Huron. Marita began her next career as wife and mother to her family, a role she cherished.


She was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Parish and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. She was also a member of Chapter CH PEO.


Marita is survived by her children, Keith Baird (Julie) Montgomery of Superior, Wis., Beth (Mark) Wahl of Huron and Jean Montgomery Della Rocco of Huron; grandchildren, Joshua (Michelle) Montgomery, Erin Montgomery, Laura Montgomery, Keith Montgomery III, Adam (Sarah) Wahl, Anthony (Megan DeBoer) Wahl, Amanda (Mark) Smith, Antonia (Alex) Della Rocco and Angelina (Jae) Graffunder; and 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Keith; son, Michael Montgomery; daughter, Ann Montgomery; great-grandson, Josh Montgomery; brothers, James (Sue) King, Eugene (Irene) King; and sister, Betty (Lee) Morrison.
