Marlene Slepikas, 87, of Huron

HURON— Marlene Slepikas, 87, of Huron, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Martins Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with her family present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning.  
 Marlene Denice was born on February 14, 1934, to parents, Lief and Margery (Shevlin) Vensand in Aberdeen. As a young child, her family moved to Huron where she attended St. Theresa Catholic School and graduated from Huron High School in 1952.
 Marlene married Buell Slepikas on August 20, 1952, at St. Martins Catholic Church in Huron. To this union, four children were born, Denis, Denice, Craig and Lori. Marlene and Buell raised their family on the farm North of Huron. Marlene enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. After her vegetable harvest, she would can her goods for the family. Sewing and crocheting were skills she mastered and enjoyed. Marlene and Buell loved to square-dance and were part of clubs during their marriage. After retirement, they enjoyed camping and fishing. They also enjoyed to bowl. Marlene liked to put together puzzles and play BINGO.
 Marlene was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parishes, BCNU, HRMC Auxiliary, and extension clubs.
 Grateful for having shared in her life are her children and grandchildren, Denis (Diana) Slepikas of Huron and their son-in-law, Wesley Davis of Billings, Mont.; Denice (Don) Hein of Cavour and their children, Tina (Chad) Kucker of Brandon, Tami (Mike) Meyer of Huron, and Tony Hinkley of Cavour; Craig (MeLynda) of Huron and their children, Lindsay (Josh) Larson of Crooks and CJ Slepikas of Huron; Lori (Tony) Beyer and their children, Stacy Semrad and Nicole Beyer, all of Watertown; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister-in-law, Connie Vensand of Madison; and brother-in-law, Leroy (Rose) Slepikas of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Lawrence and Edith Slepikas; husband, Buell; brother, Lanny Vensand; granddaughter, Alison Slepikas Davis; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
