Randy Meendering, CEO of the Huron Area Center for Independence is retiring after 32 years of service.

Please join in a drive-through retirement celebration on Wednesday, March 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Industrial Park location, 550 Arizona Ave. N.W.

“As we prepare to transition leadership responsibilities of the Center for Independence, I take the opportunity to say Thank You,” said Meendering. “I have had the privilege of working with so many talented and dedicated people among those we serve, people who have served on our Boards, people who work with our governmental partners, peers from other organizations and most especially my co-workers here at the Center.”

Meendering is a native of Iowa and graduated from South Dakota State University. He received his Master of Rehabilitation Administration from the University of San Francisco.

For 40 years his focus has been ensuring people with developmental disabilities are afforded a meaningful life in the community of their choice.  He has been described as a “Fierce Advocate” for the people he has dedicated his career to.  

During his tenure as CEO, he has guided the organization through five new residential building projects, countless remodeling projects, expansion to have a presence in seven communities and has grown the program to become the third largest Community Support Provider in South Dakota.  

Meendering is known for his leadership, vision, forthright honesty, integrity and coalition building. His presence and guidance will be greatly missed by all those he has impacted over the course of his career.

“As I retire, accolades are extended,” Meendering said. “I say thank you and then point out that almost all success is due to the kindness, dedication and effort of others.  Again I say, I have had the privilege of working with so many talented and dedicated people who helped me grow into a job that I love.  I count my work as a privilege I was granted.”
