Newton joins DWU staff

MITCHELL — The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball program has named Terrell Newton its top assistant coach for the upcoming 2021-22 season, the Dakota Wesleyan athletic department announced Friday.

Newton returns to DWU after two years as head girls varsity basketball coach and athletic director at Miller High School. He is a 2010 Huron High School graduate, where he earned Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year during his senior year. He played college basketball at Dakota State University, Iowa Lakes Community College and Wayne State University before playing his final two years at DWU. He spent a short time with the Dakota Magic, a semi-pro team in the National Basketball League of America, before taking the position in Miller.
