HURON — Philanthropic Education Organization’s (P.E.O.) motto is: Women helping women reach for the stars!

P.E.O. was founded January 21, 1869 by seven young women with a bond of friendship in Mount Pleasant, Iowa and has helped more than 119,000 women pursue their educational goals by providing more than $398 million in grants, scholarships, awards and loans with the stewardship of Cottey College.

There are six philanthropies that include ownership of a women’s college and five projects that provide higher educational assistance to women. The oldest philanthropy is The Educational Loan Fund (ELF), which was established in 1907.

This year, Huron’s Chapter CH is proud to have sponsored and assisted Cora Cook with securing a loan from the P.E.O. ELF to assist with her education at South Dakota State University.

For more information about P.E.O. and its philanthropies, visit the website: peointernational.org or contact one of the local chapters in Huron.

Huron’s Chapter CH met Jan. 17, at Gigi’s, with Judy Tschetter as hostess. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Scoreboard with Betty Timm as hostess.
